In January, we can look forward to seeing Statham take on the role of a renegade agent seeking revenge in David Ayer’s upcoming action-packed thriller.
Jason Statham bids farewell to his action star colleagues in Expendables 4 and embarks on a new adventure with The Beekeeper. David Ayer’s upcoming action thriller, released by MGM, features Statham seeking revenge against the company that orchestrated a phishing scam. As a former member of the powerful and secretive group known as The Beekeepers, his missions always carry national stakes. The plot quickly reveals that corruption runs deep, prompting him to keep the hive in check.
Statham’s character was once a genuine beekeeper who helped an elderly woman care for her hives and restore life to the area surrounding her home. However, when she falls victim to a phishing scam and loses everything before taking her own life, a sorrowful Statham responds by setting fire to one of the company’s headquarters in memory of the woman he considered family. But as he rises up the chain of command, it becomes clear that this operation is far from being run by small-time scammers. However, the bigwigs at the top also understand that they are dealing with someone who is not just an ordinary individual. As a former member of an organization that played by its own rules outside of military or police operations, Statham’s character is a classic rogue action hero who keeps everything in the country in balance.
If Meg 2: The Trench or Operation Fortune: Ruse de Guerre wasn’t enough to satisfy viewers’ thirst for explosive Statham action, then The Beekeeper offers even more. This means there will be plenty of high-octane gun battles and close-quarters combat, as well as absurd scenes like tying a villain to a car as it falls off a bridge or using honey to set someone on fire. As he climbs the ranks by killing those responsible, it becomes evident that the scam reaches the highest levels of government, forcing him to root out corruption even if it means battling the FBI and other US operatives.
MGM released The Beekeeper’s first trailer, and it features Jason Statham in the lead role in David Ayerโs upcoming action thriller. Ayer has teamed up with Statham for the first time in his latest project, but this is not the first time he has worked with big names in the action genre or franchises. He is recognized for writing and directing the initial Suicide Squad movie and the star-studded Fury. Additionally, he collaborated with Arnold Schwarzenegger, Statham’s Expendables co-star, on the action-packed crime thriller Sabotage. For The Beekeeper, Ayer partnered again with his Street Kings co-writer Kurt Wimmer, who composed the script.
Statham shares screen time with Oscar winner Jeremy Irons, fresh off his appearances in DC’s The Flash and The Cello with Tobin Bell. Accompanying them is a talented cast including Emmy Raver Lampman from The Umbrella Academy, Josh Hutcherson, Bobby Naderi, Minnie Driver, and Phylicia Rashad in supporting roles.
