Back in 2006, Miley Cyrus gained popularity by portraying the cheerful and bubbly character of Hannah Montana on the Disney Channel. With time, the 22-year-old has grown to be confident in her own skin; however, she recently opened up about the negative effects of playing the teenage character on her daily life. Cyrus shared with Marie Claire that she was constantly told how a girl is supposed to look while on the show, which caused her to develop serious body image issues while trying to fit the part.
Miley Cyrus recently shared with Marie Claire the negative impact that portraying the “blonde and perfect” character of Hannah Montana had on her body image. Being a pop star at the young age of 11 came with certain pressures, such as having long blonde hair and wearing tight and glittery clothing. Due to filming 12 hour days, Miley was given coffee to help her stay awake. However, at the same time, she was playing a fragile 16-year-old girl who wore a wig and heavy makeup. She described feeling like she had “f***ing flippers.”
According to the 22-year-old actress, during her stint as a pop star in a TV series for four seasons from 2006 to 2011, she had to portray a fake image each day. The pressure to look attractive and perfect was constant.
The singer opened up about her experience being in the limelight at a young age, stating that she felt like a fragile little girl playing a 16-year-old due to the heavy makeup and wig she had to wear. This led to some body dysmorphia as she was constantly made to look pretty, and when she wasn’t on the show anymore, she felt lost. Although she has since shed her long blonde hair for a more edgy look, Miley still feels pressure to look a certain way. Looking at retouched photos can make her feel terrible as they often lighten skin and smooth out wrinkles. It’s disheartening to see the unrealistic beauty standards that have been imposed on society, leaving many wondering why they don’t look like that.
Miley Cyrus, the famous singer of Wrecking Ball, uploaded a picture of herself recently and stated that she has no desire to conform to current beauty standards. Despite this, she still feels disheartened when she sees photos of herself that have been edited.
In the past few years, Miley Cyrus has become increasingly comfortable with her body and has not hesitated to flaunt it. She recently shared a nearly nude photo on Instagram, showcasing her confidence.
Cyrus, who was captured in Soho, New York in June of this year, has played around with various appearances since her younger years.
Hannah Montana has come a long way since her Disney days. The performer has transformed into her own unique brand of pop star as seen in her August 2020 concert in Chicago. Miley Cyrus, however, refuses to conform to society’s current beauty standards. She jokingly admits that she will probably never be the face of a traditional beauty company unless they want someone who is a weed-smoker and considered a liberal freak. But Miley has bigger aspirations than selling lip gloss. Her dream is to save the world.
