Miley Cyrus Gets Nostalgic While Watching Her Old ‘Hannah Montana’ Audition Tape

During a recent interview with Radio Disney to discuss her new single “Malibu,” Miley Cyrus recounted her audition for the role of Hannah Montana in 2005. She returned to the same building where, at the age of 12, she had to sign in at the desk and announce her presence for the audition. Cyrus remembered singing a song she had written with a friend of her dad’s called “We’re Going to the Beach.” The song was about leaving Nashville for the beach and that place being a paradise and home. The former Disney Channel star fondly reminisced about the experience.

In the present day, Miley Cyrus is promoting her latest single “Malibu,” which will be included in her upcoming sixth studio album. Interestingly, Cyrus, who grew up on a farm in Nashville, never imagined living by the ocean in Malibu. She finds it ironic that she is now releasing this song after almost 15 years, which features a theme that contradicts her background. In a prior interview with Billboard, Cyrus revealed that her rekindled relationship with fiancรฉ Liam Hemsworth, whom she lives with in Malibu, partly inspired the song. Recently, Gary Marsh, President and Chief Creative Officer of Disney Channels Worldwide, shared an old clip of Cyrus singing “We’re Going to the Beach,” the song she referenced in her recent interview.

During her audition for Hannah Montana, it was a match made in heaven when a young Miley Cyrus showed up wearing a T-shirt that said “I should have my own TV show.” For four successful seasons, Miley played the lead role of a regular girl with a secret double life as a famous pop star. The beloved series came to an end in 2011, but now Cyrus is back and is set to perform her new hit single “Malibu” at the 2017 Billboard Music Awards on May 21. Fans can catch her full interview on Radio Disney on Wednesday, May 17 at 2:00 p.m., PT/ 5:00 p.m., ET on Radio Disney and the Radio Disney app.
