The complex was built in 1967 and features an ‘eternal flame’ in honor of those who passed away during the genocide. Additionally, there are twelve slabs arranged in a circular formation, each representing the twelve provinces that were lost in Turkey.

As a result, relations between Turkey and Armenia remain strained. On April 24, 2015, which marked the 100th anniversary of the deaths, Kim visited the site and paid her respects by laying red roses. Along with this visit, Kim also took her children – Chicago, Saint, and Psalm – for baptism while exploring other historically significant locations.
