In 2002, Jason Statham burst onto the scene as a legitimate action movie star with his portrayal of Frank Martin, the mysterious driver and hero in the film “The Transporter.” Although he has appeared in many impressive films over the years, one franchise that truly shines in his filmography is the iconic “Transporter” series.
Jason Statham, who played the tough protagonist in the popular Transporter movie series, decided not to reprise his role for The Transporter: Refueled. Though approached to participate, he declined the offer and ended his association with the franchise that earned around $315 million at the box office. Statham cited a practical reason for his decision, stating that the filmmakers wanted him to sign on for three more movies without even sharing a script, and offered him less money for the three than he was paid for one movie. While he appreciates the experience of being part of the franchise, he felt the deal was unfair and decided to move on.
The decision not to reprise his role as Frank Martin in The Transporter franchise was purely business for Jason Statham. Although he would have loved to participate, the prospect of signing on without seeing a script and committing to three films for a low salary did not seem worthwhile. As a result, Ed Skrein took over the lead in The Transporter Refueled. While fans may have hoped to see Statham reunite with Dwayne Johnson in Hobbs & Shaw 2, it seems unlikely as Statham has opted to return to the main Fast & Furious series instead. Nevertheless, the chemistry between Statham and Johnson in the first Hobbs & Shaw movie will always be remembered.
It has been reported that Jason Momoa will be joining Dwayne Johnson for the upcoming Hobbs spinoff. Despite originally being set to play Mateo in Hobbs and Shaw, Momoa had to drop out due to a busy schedule. When a fan asked about his absence on Instagram, Johnson explained that they had tried to get him to play his brother, but it didn’t work out. However, Hiram Garcia from Seven Bucks Productions confirmed that Hobbs & Shaw 2 is currently in development, with the story being written.
