Gal Gadot, the lead actress of the record-breaking movie “Wonder Woman”, will grace the stage at the 2018 Oscars as a presenter, even though the film didn’t receive any nominations. Though not a nominee or winner this year, Gadot has become one of Hollywood’s breakout stars for her portrayal of the feminist superhero. She has won awards such as the National Board of Review’s Spotlight Award and has also been nominated for a Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Award. Prior to her acting career, Gadot spent two years serving as a soldier in the Israeli army.
JON KOPALOFF/FILMMAGIC Born in Petah Tikva, Israel, the celebrity fulfilled their mandatory military service at the age of 20 as required by law for both genders over 18 years old.
In 2015, during an interview with Fashion magazine, Gadot shared that her time in the army was not a challenge for her and actually provided her with valuable training for her Hollywood career. Prior to joining the military, Gadot was a beauty queen and won the title of Miss Israel in 2004 at the young age of 18. She even represented her country in the Miss Universe pageant held in Ecuador. Following the end of her reign, she served as a combat instructor in the military.
The celebrity served in the army for two years before enrolling at IDC Herzliya college to study law and international relations. During her time as a law student, a casting director approached Gadot to audition for the role of a Bond girl in “Quantum of Solace.” Initially, she declined the offer, stating that she was too serious and intelligent to become an actress and that the script was in English, which made her uncomfortable despite being proficient in the language.
Despite not landing the role, her passion for acting was ignited and she secured a part in an Israeli TV series. After just one year of school, she left to pursue her dreams. The same casting director who previously rejected her eventually gave her a breakthrough opportunity, casting her in her first movie role as Gisele in “Fast & Furious.” She relocated to the United States to fully dedicate herself to acting and the rest, as they say, is history.
Gal Gadot, the actress popularly known for her role as Wonder Woman, currently lives with her spouse Yaron Versano and their two daughters, Maya and Alma, in Los Angeles.
