David Ayer is a highly regarded action director in the 21st century, but unfortunately, his reputation took a hit after directing Suicide Squad. The movie is widely believed to have dragged the DC Comics audiovisual universe down, and Ayer hasn’t been able to recover since then. His subsequent films, such as Bright and The Tax Collector, were poorly received and didn’t receive much public support either, leading many to believe that his career was over. However, things seem to be turning around for Ayer, as he recently released the trailer for his latest film, Beekeeper: The Protector. With this upcoming project, Ayer hopes to change his fortunes for the better.
Beekeeper: The Protector is an adrenaline-fueled blockbuster that sees director Ayer teaming up with action movie icon Jason Statham, who is almost synonymous with the genre. Following Statham’s hit film Megalodon 2, he experienced a slight setback with the underwhelming performance of The Mercenaries 4, but he aims to make a comeback with this new release.
The movie centers around a man seeking brutal revenge against an online scamming company that preys on the most vulnerable. As the protagonist’s past as a member of a powerful and secretive organization called “the beekeepers” is uncovered, the stakes escalate, turning his fight into a national spectacle.
Apart from Jason Statham, the movie features renowned actors such as Josh Hutcherson, Jeremy Irons, Emmy Raver-Lampman, Bobby Naderi, Taylor James and Michael Epp. The film is scheduled to debut on January 12, 2024, so we have some time to go before we can watch it. Will it be Ayer’s much-awaited comeback or another setback in his career? Only time will tell.
